We had such a busy week! Continuing into realm of landforms and regions, we finished our mini-lesson on GPS/GIS. The majority of our students did a fantastic job studying for the quiz on that material and scored 90 to 100! Kudos to all of you who showed such commitment to excellence in learning. We received our packet on Landforms and Regions which focuses on elevation and contour maps. We discussed the impact of landforms on the formation of regions and natural boundaries, and their affect, in turn, on culture around the globe. We will continue to work on that next week in class.
We began our giant landform foldables in class this week. I can't believe the talent and creativity that bubbled throughout the classroom yesterday as students dove into stage one of our project. My students have such great ideas to enhance a product!! Their enthusiasm is actually contagious! I can't wait to see the finished products next week.
Our re-test after-school activity on Thursday afternoon was very successful for those students who participated. The grades were superb and reflected a great attention to detail in studying the material this time. I was so happy for students who waited for their paper to be graded before they left. Their smiles and high fives when they heard the results of their hard work only served to support the notion that we are so motivated as humans by our great personal successes as we travel through life, and this is where the training ground begins for most people to experience dedication to personal success. Congratulations to all who participated for improving your grade!
Next week we will continue the Landforms and Regions Unit. We will take notes and several presentations on the subject, view video clips of the world's greatest rivers and mountain ranges, continue our progress on our landforms foldable, finish up our landforms packet and prepare for a map quiz on Thursday on the location of all of the landforms we study.
Homework this weekend was to finish up Chapter 3 in the text. There will be a notebook check next week.
Have a great weekend and I'll see you next week!! Don't forget that all students have the day off on Friday of next week! (I'm jealous! :) )
